Edgewood New Mexico Project 2024
This is a project I began in late Fall of 2024 in Edgewood, New Mexico at about 6,400 ft elevation (Santa Fe County). This area is mostly Shortgrass Prairie. My client had a weed problem because some utility lines were installed covering large areas around the property, subsequently disturbing the native vegetation. Once the areas were disturbed, it allowed weeds such as Russian Thistle (AKA Tumbleweed) and Kochia among others to take over these disturbed areas.
I managed this area by bagging up the weeds, I got over 80 bags from this project. Bagging up the weeds saved thousands of seeds from reaching the ground, and also provided a clear space for native seed. I also found some of the winter annual weed seedlings germinating under all the thatch that was cleared and hit those. I then seeded these areas with a diverse custom seed mix of grasses, wildflowers, and a few shrubs from Plants of the Southwest. In the Spring of 2025 I will be weeding the live Russian Thistle and Kochia seedlings as they come up, allowing the native seeds we sowed to germinate so they can provide competition against the weeds. I will be managing this project without any chemicals-herbicides.

Native Plant Garden Bed Area
This is a small garden I planted during the summer of 2024 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I added a diverse mix of live native plants to this area. Next year it will grow to full size and the plants will be mature.
